Mehdi Jahangiri (Persian: مهدی جهانگیری; born in Sirjan, Kerman ) is an economist, banker, and owner of Tourism Bank .[۱] His brother, Ishaq Jahangiri, served as the first deputy in the government of Hassan Rouhani and candidate for the 2017 Iranian presidential elections. Tourism Bank was established on January 7, 2009 by Jahangiri. Jahangiri is also chairman and CEO of Tourism Financial Group and the Chairman of the Board of the Iran-Greece Chamber of Commerce.[۲]
Family and education[ویرایش]
He is one of the five brothers in the Jahangiri family. The most prominent are him and Ishaq Jahangiri. Two of his brothers Yaqub and Muhammad were killed in the Iran-Iraq war.[۳]
He has a master's degree in business administration and is currently a doctoral student in international economics.
Tourism bank and other activities[ویرایش]
Jahangiri was the founder of the Tourism Bank in 2010 in Tehran. This commercial bank focuses on the tourism industry by providing a set of loans, credit facilities, and investment products, besides conventional products. Tourism Bank is an official member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).[۴]
Tourism Bank is a subsidiary of Tourism Financial Group, which is also active in real estate development, oil and gas, petrochemical, and mining businesses. The company’s shares were listed on Tehran Stock Exchange in 2011.
Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Investment Company, also known as Semga, is a subsidiary of the Jahangiri management, registered in July 2008 with a capital of 20 billion Tomans. It has managed to create six large satellite companies in a short period of time.[۵]
